It’s been 21 days since we first saw these little eggs and now they have evolved into eggs with legs. This the clutch of eggs that I previously posted on my Facebook page Emay’s Critters and it is from one of my wife’s tan jumping spiders (Polycryptus undatus). Her name is Toto; she is the largest of the two jumping spiders my wife keeps in two different habitats. This clutch was laid in a curling piece of River Birch bark that we acquired near our home and placed in her habitat.

At first we thought the eggs might be sterile but they’re obviously not. You can barely see on a couple of them that spider legs are forming on the outside of the egg, which is very, very fascinating. When they hatch I’m not sure what we’re going to do – we’ll probably release them. You know, these are really cool little spiders; I even saw one today on our window. They occur frequently here in coastal Virginia.
You know – as I get older I find that I’m not into some of the retired life like gardening, or golfing or rose bushes and all that. For some odd reason I simply like Critters. I like to photograph them, observe them and just be an amateur biologist for a while.
I’ll keep you posted on Toto’s babies here. 🙂
Peace
Emay
